Death Outside of Normal Office Hours

Sunday to Thursday – after 4pm. Friday – after 2pm Please call the JJBS on 020 8989 5252.

For a death that occurs in an NHS hospital, please contact JJBS first thing in the morning, or leave a message on the admin office answer-phone: on 020 8989 5252.

For private homes, nursing homes or private hospitals please do not contact JJBS until the death has been verified either by a doctor or nurse with suitable qualifications.

If there are not facilities available to keep a deceased person, again only contact JJBS after the death has been verified by a doctor or nurse with suitable qualifications. Then please call JJBS on 020 8989 5252 and listen to the message, you will then be re-directed to our duty sexton by pressing 1.

Cremation only: call the JJBS office on 020 8989 5252. A cremation cannot be carried out quickly – there will be a delay of 3-4 days for all the paperwork to be completed. The crematorium needs 48 hours after paperwork has been received. We have no influence over cremation times.

The Jewish Bereavement Counselling Service JBCS
JBCS offers bereavement counselling support following a bereavement. Whilst family, friends and their community can often meet this need, there may be times when it could be useful to talk in confidence to a trained bereavement counsellor. Clients are asked to contribute towards their counselling, no one is turned away if there are financial difficulties. It is offered not only to those who have suffered a recent loss but at any time.

JBCS can be reached on 020 8951 3881 or enquiries@jbcs.org.uk
